Pentair 188592 Quad D.E. Cartridge Style D.E. Pool Filter, 60 Square Foot, 120 GPM

We love this pool filter. It is so much better than the old one we had! The filters are much easier to clean than the ones we had in the other one that needed to be cleaned and forced to get in the right shape and then it was hard to close it up. This one is a dream and makes cleaning it out easy and so much better.

I plumbed in this unit myself after my old Pentair FNS DE filter cracked the lid. This unit is much simpler to clean and appears to work much better than the old panel type DE filters. However if you have the grid style filter, like the FNS DE models, you will need a Pentair 26150 valve in order to use the Quad DE. The inlet and outlet are reversed on these units. I also recommend avoiding backwashing with this filter cartridge style DE system as it reverses flow to force the sediment and contaminants off the cartridges, which causes the cartridge to swell and burst. Always pull the lid and wash the filters manually.

My Hayward DE filter (15 year old unit) got a crack in the top and I could not get a replacement top so I decided to replace... I researched, planned and installed but one and a half year down the road it is still as rubbish as it was day one and I have the replacement unit... The problem with pool filters is that due to custom sizing/dimensions one is tuck with what was done before or you only find the problem after a "custom" install of a new setup, a major investment... I returned the first unit because it immediately started dumping DE back in the pool the second also dumped a little but should it at all... This start of the season, I back-washed, recharged and I saw this happening again... I meticulously examined all the parts but can only conclude that the filter material in the QUAD 60 cartridges is just not designed for DE... I can only conclude that the "grid" (mesh) of the material is just not tight enough to hold the DE and it gets getting recirculated in the pool... You can not get it from being dumped... I am switching the cartridges to plain filters (4 x 80sqrft 20" x 7" x 3" ID holes) Pleatco PCC80 Filter Cartridges and not using DE at all... At least they will do what they are supposed to, FILTER!!!... no more DE while I have this piece of rubbish "DE" system...

Used this filter for over a year. Started noticing problems almost immediately.. The quad cartridges are easy to clean and put back together. This 60 sq ft filter is a great design but way undersized for almost any pool. Do yourself a favor and get the 100 sq ft filter. After upgrading mine to the 100 it’s been a huge improvement.

I did a pool make-over,Tile and plaster so I decided to put in a new filter. I chose the Pentair Quad because of good reviews and the easier cleaning of the D.E. I had the old pentair with all the panels which was hard to get back together. I was told that I would have to clean my filter often until the plaster dust had been all filtered out. I swept the pool twice a day as instructed for 7 days. The pressure only went up 2 poundsI have a 26,000 pool and the water cleared up in two hours after sweeping. Now it,s been two weeks and the water is as clear as I've ever seen and I've had a pool for 30 years. I did not put in a valve for back washing because the filter elements won' t last as long and the ease of cleaning the four elements. So far extremely happy with this purchase. Save lots of money if you install yourself , real easy .

Three years ago we bought a home with existing sand filter. I was unhappy with that but it did not make sense to replace until it gave me a reason to. The sand filter NEVER left the water shining as a previous DE [Diatomaceous Earth] had at previous home. At opening time this 2017 season the sand filter would no longer remove the green algae and the pool looked like guacamole. After about six weeks of green I decided to replace with a DE filter rather than put new sand in the sand filter.[At best a sand filter removes particulates down to about 80-100 microns [or about 3200 - 4000 micro inches or, 3.2 - 4 thousands of an inch] That's about twice the diameter of a human hair. [DE filters down to 4-5 microns, or about 160 - 200 micro inches, or .16 - .2 thousands of an inch] Stated differently.. a DE filter beats the filtration particulent size of a sand filter by about 20 to 1 ! There is simply NO COMPARISON !FYI a human hair is about 2 thousandths of an inch.I took off the pools winter leaf net off about Jan 1. Six weeks later the pool was still green in spite of shocking multiple times and it was obvious to me it was time to change out the crappy sand filter for a real DE filter !! In the process I discovered the new [to me] development of quad filters. This made huge sense to me [electronics engineer]. I ordered the Pentair 60 sf quad filter. Took a couple of days to install. Since i poured a new concrete pad for the filter.I started the filter up end of the day and let it run over night. Next day the green pool was a much lighter shade of green, The following morning [1.5 days of new filter] the pool was a lovely light blue and looked like drinking water ! will be swimming the first day the water hits 70F. Which here in AR will be in 1-2 weeks.Color me totally thrilled with this filter. Getting rid of a POS sand filter and replacing with a DE filter is a total no brainer !!

However if it had come w/directions it would have saved my husband a lot of trouble, stress, time, cleaning, & D.E.(6lbs plus + more after all blew into pool leaving NONE on filters)! One of the reviews on here mentioned things are reversed! We had already purchased Pentair-261152-Threaded-Multiport-Replacement to go w/it also NO Manuel!Seller apologized; offered 100% refund if item defective & returned in original packing box; if not they would return to us or restock & refund 50%. Re-reading reviews & followed flow & the connections between 2 Pentair items were reversed! Reworked pipes! Works!
